Family-Friendly Wineries in Northern Virginia
Family-friendly wineries in Northern Virginia are an excellent way to spend weekends or days off during the week. Most wineries have outdoor areas for kids to run around and play while you enjoy a glass of wine with a beautiful view.

When I moved to Virginia, I was blown away by the number of wineries in the area. However, as a parent, I never considered it an option with kids until I realized how family-friendly most of them are.
Family-friendly wineries in Northern Virginia are an excellent way to spend weekends or days off during the week. Most wineries have outdoor areas for kids to run around and play while you enjoy a glass of wine with a beautiful view. You can usually bring your four-legged friend, too.
I also added some local breweries at the end because I know not everyone has a taste for wine.
It should go without saying but always drink responsibly and ensure you have a safe, fun time with your family.
Barrel Oak Winery

Barrel Oak is one of my favorite wineries in the area. Its gorgeous location and delicious wine make for a fantastic weekend spot. Barrel Oak is kid and dog-friendly, with places for children to run around. Keep in mind there are designated areas for families with children under 21.
In the past, Barrel Oak Winery has hosted kid-friendly events that included some favorite princesses like Anna and Elsa.
Barrel Oak does not allow outside coolers or food, despite allowing them in the past; however, the winery does have several food options, including special dates when wood-fired pizza is served.

The Winery at Bull Run

Another favorite winery is The Winery at Bull Run, especially since it has several outdoor areas for families to sit in. In addition, they often have food trucks, which is nice because they have limited food options.
Bull Run does not allow pets, unlike other wineries, so you can only bring your two-legged children. You also cannot bring outside food into the Tasting Room or outside patios. In addition, there are designated outdoor areas for families and one for adults only, so be aware of where you sit.
They also have live music most weekends, and you can check for additional events and the food truck schedule on their calendar.

Chrysalis Vineyards

After taking the long, winding road up to Chrysalis Vineyards, you’ll see why it made the list of family-friendly wineries in Northern Virginia. While seating is limited for children inside, they have several areas outside to sit. My kids thoroughly enjoyed running around the open field area with other kids.
In addition, Chrysalis Vineyards has one of the more impressive menus I’ve seen at a winery and has various food options, including pizza and sandwiches. They have a cauliflower crust pizza that is delicious.
While they don’t allow outside food, you won’t have a problem finding something for everyone in the family.

Morais Vineyards

Morais Vineyards is a little more of a drive if you live closer to D.C., but its gorgeous views and family-friendly vibes make it worth the drive. There is a playground for kids, and you can bring dogs as long as you keep them outside.
You can bring outside food into Morais Vineyards, which is always appreciated, especially if you have picky eaters. Snacks like crackers and cheese are the only options if you forget to bring something to eat.

Three Fox Vineyards & Brewery

Three Fox Vineyards & Brewery is family- and dog-friendly, making it a superb choice for your next outing. In addition, unlike other wineries, Three Fox is also a brewery, so you can have your choice of beverage.
You can check their calendar before you visit and watch for special events like live music and food truck schedules, which typically come on the weekends. They also have pre-packaged snacks, but you can bring outside food.
Dogs must be on a leash, but they can roam free in the meadow, so it’s a great spot for your kids and furry best friend to run around.

Quattro Goombas Winery

Quattro Goombas is known for its Virginia wine, craft beer, and delicious pizza and is situated in historic Loudoun County. The family-friendly winery also has beautiful views of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
While they don’t allow outside food, they have a full menu to please all family members. Outside, children will enjoy running around in the large family area but are not permitted in various areas like the tasting room, pavilion, and patio.
You can bring your four-legged bestie, but they must stay on a leash.

Potomac Point Vineyard & Winery

Potomac Point Vineyard & Winery is another local family-friendly spot to visit and even has a kid’s menu in the bistro. The winery has outdoor areas for children, including picnic spots, but the little ones cannot go into the Merlot Meadow Tasting Lounge.
In addition, outside food is permitted in the picnic locations but not inside the bistro. You also can bring your dogs to Potomac Point, but ensure you keep them leashed.
Potomac Point is surrounded by lush trees, with the Potomac River not far behind. The winery also has live music every Friday and various annual special events.
Finally, you must make a reservation before your visit.

Bluemont Vineyard

Conveniently located across the way from one of my favorite places, Great Country Farms, is Bluemont Vineyard, a sister property of the farm. So, you can spend time at the farm with the kids and make your way to your vineyard.
Bluemont Vineyard is unique because it sits 951 feet above sea level on the first ridge of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
The panoramic views are one-of-a-kind at Bluemont, and you likely won’t want to leave. Bluemont hosts a family-friendly annual grape stomping event, which takes place in The 951 Tasting Room. You can also bring dogs into the tasting room, but remember that the Reserve Tasting Room is for those 21 and up.
You cannot bring outside food, but they have a light fare menu.

Breweries and Beyond to Check Out in Northern Virginia
While these aren't wineries, they are all fantastic places where children and adults will enjoy themselves. I understand that not everyone has a taste for wine and prefers an ice-cold beer, so I figured it didn't hurt to include some family-friendly local breweries.
The Farm Brewery at Broad Run

The Farm Brewery is situated not far from downtown Haymarket and has plenty of activities to entertain the little ones. First, there is a wide-open field where kids can run around and a playground area to get out extra energy. You can also bring your pups to The Farm Brewery.
In addition, they often have live music, an extensive menu, and a rotating schedule of food trucks. It should be noted that no outside food is allowed, but they have plenty of options to choose from.

2 Silos Brewing Co.

2 Silos Brewing Co is one of my favorites in the area, especially since it keeps every family member entertained. For starters, they have plenty of outdoor seating, which is fantastic on a nice day.
In addition, they have a fenced-in playground for kids, and I appreciate the extra security with the fencing.
Next, they have an extensive menu that includes appetizers, salads, and pizza. If you go on the weekend, you undoubtedly will be treated to live music, which always livens the mood.
While you can bring your dog, four-legged guests are not permitted after 8:00 pm.

Dacha Beer Garden Navy Yard

Dacha Beer Garden is on the bank of the Anacostia River and across from Nationals Park. The outdoor garden is kid and dog-friendly, making it an excellent place to visit on the weekend or before a game.
If you spend the evening at Dacha Beer Garden, you might see the fireworks at Nationals Park. In addition, there is a nearby splash pad, so you can make a day of your visit and keep everyone entertained.
Something vital to note is Dacha Beer Garden is a cashless establishment, so ensure you bring plastic with you.

Eavesdrop Brewery

Eavesdrop Brewery is easy to miss, as it sits behind a small strip mall in the historic Yorkshire neighborhood of Manassas. However, there is plenty of space to keep the kids entertained, and has some traditional outdoor games like corn hole.
While the indoor space isn’t huge, the outside area has several picnic tables and fire pits for those cold days. In addition, you can bring outside food, although they have a full kitchen partnered with Eugene’s Sausages & Fries. You also can enjoy live music on Fridays and Saturdays.

Alexandria is home to Port City Brewing Company which offers families an excellent place to hang out on the weekend. (or any day of the week!) The Brewing Company hosts various food trucks throughout the month, which you can view on their website.
In addition, they have old-school arcade games (free of charge) and traditional yard games like giant Jenga, corn hole, darts, and ladder ball. While they have a rotating food truck schedule, you can bring food with you. In addition, dogs are welcome at Port City Brewing Company.
